I decided to compose my Ubuntu Guide For Beginners to explain to all of you why I think Ubuntu Linux is right distribution of Linux for you. So today and many updates in the future I’m going to explain why I think Ubuntu Linux is one best and easiest distribution of Linux to learn in my Ubuntu guide for beginners.

This article is for any new person who has never touched Linux in their life, all the way to the experienced geek who’s mind I’m going to try to change today in this Ubuntu Guide For Beginners.

My Ubuntu Guide For Beginners

  • Easy to install in a single or dual-boot scenario (Windows and Ubuntu)
  • Out of box Ubuntu resembles Windows for the most part
  • Using Apt to install and manage packages (programs) is quite simple,  sort of cryptic and fun
  • Many precompiled drivers to allow your video card,  wireless device,  and other hardware to work without any changes
  • Includes tons of software you would normally would have to pay for on a Windows pc
  • Many forums, other Ubuntu Guide for beginners and tons of people to help if you just can’t figure out what you are doing there are even Ubuntu manuals built into every install if you just type the word “MAN”  in the terminal program
  • If you learn one more skill, you will have one more item you can put on a résumé if you are looking for a job.  Face it there are not that many people in the IT department who have skills and experience with Linux.

Well for now that is all that I can think of for this Ubuntu help guide.   Fell free to comment so I can update this Ubuntu Guide For Beginners later.

Hey guys I’m quite new to Ubuntu/Linux at all. And I’ve just (Tried) to install a program named “QuickSynergy” But something went wrong under the installation but now i can’t uninstall it. First when i go into “Ubuntu software center” there comes something up with one of my system packages is broken and i CANNO’T use the software center unless i repair it. and when i then find the “Quicksynergy” under installed items i press uninstall and this comes:

    The package system is broken
Check if you are using third party repositories. If so disable them, since they are a common source of problems.
Furthermore run the following command in a Terminal: apt-get install -f

Okay so i went over to the “synaptic package Manager” and pressed Fix Broken packages. And then apply but then this comes out!…:

    An error occurred
    The following details are provided:
E: /var/cache/apt/archives/synergy_1.3.1-6ubuntu1_amd64.deb: trying to overwrite ‘/usr/bin/synergyc’, which is also in package synergy-plus 1.3.4

So my big question to you all is now “How the F do i uninstall this program??”
Ps. I’ve tried to delete the file “Synergyc” with the “rm” command but it didn’t help.

    Thanks for your help :P
    Best regards Sandknowhow

Hey, I recently made the switch from Windows 7 to Ubuntu 11.10. I have a few questions about the operating system.

-What are some starter applications I should get?
-What is the equivalent of an .exe file?
-Where is a starter manual for beginners I can use?
-I keep screwing up the system experimenting with it – is there some sort of system restore?

    Thanks!
-Also, is it safe to delete the entire Windows folder now? (system 32, etc)?
